Maize development

This is a picture of what came off our maize bed this morning.  As well as an ordinary maize cob there are two sorts of baby maize as well as half cob that had been eaten by parrots.

Over the years the maize plants seem to have to developed so that many now have three cobs on each stem instead of two.  And the cobs are more diverse.  I think we are watching natural genetic modification in action as the plants respond to climate changes.
